RSumm News
An extension for on-line news summarization
"How To" Guide
In order for you to fully enjoy all the features provided by the extension, we made a "How To" guide that contains explanations of each funcionality available on the extension.- How to access the source texts
Any source text can be accessed by the left column of the page (see figure below).
Another way to find source texts is to click on a sentence. The link will take you to the source text in which the corresponding sentence appears.
- How to control the size of the summary
The size of the summary can be controlled by the compression rate. This rate defines how many sentences the summary will display. That way, the user can have a short summary, with only the most important information, or a long summary, which will contain additional and less relevant information.
The figure below shows the compression rate slide. The '+' signal corresponds to increasing the compression, therefore, decreasing the size of the summary. In relation to the '-' signal, it works precisely the opposite of the plus signai (decreases the compression, thus increases the size of the summary).
- How to send a message or report a bug
The extension has two similar forms available for the user: "Contato" and "Relatar Problema".
In case the user wants to contact the developers to know more about the extension, or about the summarization system, the first form (Contato) is the right one. Now, if a bug is found or there is something out of place, then the user would be sending a message through "Relatar Problema".
The image below shows the first form, Contato, as an example.
Note 1: the difference between those two forms is the priority, i.e., the second form has a high priority because it involves some functionality issue.
Note 2: the user is encourage to report as many bugs as found, so we can improve the extension.
- How to add or subtract source texts
The last, but not least, feature of the RSumm News extension is the "Add" and "Substract" source texts button.
Those two buttons, showed on the figure below, are responsible to increase/decrease the number of source texts that will generate the final summary. That is, if the button add is clicked, 8 more texts will participate on the relevant information selection. Analogous to the add button, the subtract button will remove 8 texts from the generation of the summary.
Note 1: the minimum number of source texts allowed is 8.
Note 2: the maximum number of source texts allowed is 64.
