Visualization Tree - multiple
integrated visualizations
The
Visualization Tree System is an environment where multiple visualization
workspaces progressively unfold into a tree-like structure. The tree can be
manipulated either entirely, or individually considering each of its nodes. As
the user interacts with the system, each node (visualization workspace) carries
a set of data elements originated from a former node. The visual depiction of
this process resembles the growth of branches from a common root.

The visualization tree is an experimental software that proposes a novel concept on multiple visualizations integration. The system permits to create several parallel visualization windows and integrate them both horizontally and vertically. Each integration with a different effect.

Horizontal
refinement operations permit to expand the ranges of a visualization by
selecting a portion of the data and having it in a dedicated workspace.

Vertical joining
operations permit to join different visualizations by determining their data
intersection and having it in a dedicated workspace.

The project has been sponsored in part by Brazilian research agency CAPES (Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior) and in part by Brazilian research agency FAPESP (Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo) in collaboration with Brazilian São Paulo University - ICMC-USP.
